Women who come forward face exponentially more harassment and scrutiny than the accused. Kavanaugh, for example, sits both accused of sexual assault *and* on the Supreme Court. He goes safely home while Ford remains in hiding, and probably read this article on his commute.
Consider the recent criticisms of E. Jean Carroll, who used the word “sexy” in an emotional interview about one of the most traumatic experiences of her life, and was thus summarily dismissed by conservatives and liberals alike. A corroborated assault ignored over semantics.
Or Katie, a woman who braved the initial stages of her case against Epstein and Trump, submitting testimony and corroborating statements detailing the ways the president assaulted her at 13, but was so harassed and terrorized by supporters that she ultimately withdrew her claim.
A robbery victim doesn’t become less robbed because they don’t share their Facebook history, or speak momentarily inarticulately, or desire a life free from death threats. Only rape victims must prove their own innocence before we are willing to believe in their assailants guilt.
