This story is insane. Israeli ambassador to Brazil has non-kosher lobster meal with Jair Bolsonaro, puts weird photoshop smudges on the official photo to obscure what's on his plate, insists it's smoked salmon.
This is the same ambassador who came out in defence of Bolsonaro a few months ago after the Brazilian president gave a speech talking about forgiving the perpetrators of the Holocaust:

What I love though is that the photoshop is just so amateurish.
The whole story is just
"It's not lobster, it's smoked salmon" may need to replace "take pity on my parricide, I'm an orphan" in future dictionary definitions of chutzpah

Interesting thread but I think it vastly overstates the length and depth of the (very real) revolution wrought by fossil fuels:

1. The world didn't switch to fossil fuels when Watt's steam engine was invented in 1774.
Hydro power and horsepower remained *at least* as important as power sources until well into the 20th century in most of the world.

Hydro was a bigger share than coal in most early electricity grids, though coal was still very important.
2. There were multiple "revolutions". The UK, unusually, switched from biomass to coal as early as 1600 because its trees were all used up as fuel or timber for ships. Then you have Watt's steam engine in 1774.

Political bastardry of the highest order.

I wasn't expecting a referendum from this government, so why raise and dash hopes of one in a single news cycle. The Indigenous affairs portfolio is the only one I could imagine being treated with such insouciance.

they must maintain something of a "non-partisan" veneer. That said, business generally tries to play nice & ingratiate itself to whoever is in political power. But going to the length of puffing up @jairbolsonaro as their "Person of the Year" is simply a bridge too far. /2
As a nonprofit, these annual galas always comprise a giant chunk of their annual earned revenue; it's part of how they survive. So public pressure really puts the squeeze on them in very stark dollar terms, which is all they really care about & the only way to push for change. /3
