What a disgrace.

What a betrayal of Ken Wyatt, one day after he was sent out to make the case for a referendum on genuine change.
What @JasonVScott says:

On what other issue could you imagine sending out a minister to make the case for a referendum on a long-established, much-discussed issue, and then shoot it down off-record to the Oz the next day?
Political bastardry of the highest order.

I wasn't expecting a referendum from this government, so why raise and dash hopes of one in a single news cycle. The Indigenous affairs portfolio is the only one I could imagine being treated with such insouciance.

I should say, one major reason I suspect Wyatt doesn't resign is that he knew this when he stood up and *he's* the original source for the off-record claim that Morrison would veto constitutional change.
Which tells you something about how difficult his position is, trying to sweep the table with only a 2 and a 3 in his hand. But the game's been rigged in advance.
I had thought this was the most important line in Ken Wyatt's speech ...
