Hi, #WritingCommunity ❤️ It's no secret I'm 100% here for the frivolity, but... people keep asking how I got an agent. I'm no expert, but I'm well acquainted w/ how soul-sucking the querying process is, so I'll toss some tips out there in case it's helpful to anyone. 1/
I started w/ this list of agencies literaryagencies.com/list-of-litera…. Then I went to an agency's website and looked at each agent's bio, determining who would be my best match. Once I picked someone, I searched them on manuscriptwishlist.com to get a more thorough idea of their interests.
Once I found 5-7 agents, I sent out a batch of queries. I worked on new projects while I waited. It felt like each project got better. (I know that's not feasible for everyone. Just saying my process.) The first book got zero requests. But, by the time I'd waited my 3 months, I
felt like my next project had a better chance. Long story short, it was my 3rd project that got signed (quickly but not, considering it was my 3rd try.) My point is that it's not as powerless as it feels. The waiting is horrible, but writers write, and nobody can stop that.
Oh! And queryshark.blogspot.com/?m=1 is great for learning to write query letters. There's also a page called "sub it club" on Facebook that's full of people going through the same thing. They're great about giving feedback on query letters or just offering general support.

.People keep asking what's going on with all the investigating that @LindseyGrahamSC had pledged to be doing. You have to keep something in mind, the Senate Intel Committee has investigators that work behind the scenes, it doesn't take public hearings to be investigating.
Also remember that Durham has his own investigation going on and they don't want to be stepping on each others toes, especially since John Durham is the only one that can actually prosecute anybody and that is the real objective is to make anyone guilty of a crime pay.
If I had my guess Barr has asked Graham to stand down while Durham does his business. If that is in fact what has happened, Barr has strong suspicions that Team Mueller has legal exposure of some kind. Don't want to blow this thing, bottom line is get to the heart of it.

People keep asking what we can do to stop this Authoritarian. Go back to early 2017 when we effectively stopped numerous Trump disasters by having spontaneous protests, daily phone calls, voicing outrage at town halls, organizing mass responses to save ACA, etc. Back to basics
Then Mueller came and everyone put off saving our Democracy to him. The answer to saving our Democracy has always been our responsibility.
We need to get back to that w our demands of removing Barr, having hearings, making sure all evidence is made public, and demanding our leaders hold everyone breaking the law accountable.

people keep asking me for devrel advice and i'm waiting for y'all to figure out that i HAVE no special devrel advice. good DAs are (IMO) practitioners first: i'm just an ops/systems eng that talks to people/advocates for users. that's it.

(and shitposts. i'm good at shitposting)
i think that what makes devrel (done right) so helpful. they've been a customer or a user, and they can take all those insights and requests and bugs and customer pain. take that back to the rest of product, and turn that into improvements (or features or demos or talks)
IMO, thats why being a practitioner first, and keeping the technical bar high for devrel, is so important. it's really, really hard to advocate effectively if you don't understand the issues that your customers are struggling with. otherwise, it's just product messaging.

I've been writing all my life. Pubbed since 2003, full time since 2004, and it's not always roses, either.
But I'm still here.

There were people who started about the same time I did are doing far and away better.

Others no longer write at all.

This is *not* a community for wimps.

Not trying to be mean, but it is what it is.

The thin-skinned need not hit send, #WritingCommunity.
You *will* get negative reviews if you decide to publish a book, #WritingCommunity... IF your book gets read.

If you're going the indie route, keep in mind, that is an *IF*. Go look and see how many books are currently available on Kindle.

Discoverability is hard.

Dating back to biblical times, the Jews were accused of killing Christ (it was, in fact, the Romans). This myth is still prevalent today. It was one of my first antisemitic experiences & a lot of Jews have experienced being called Christ killers at some point. 3/
