THREAD – Earlier this week a tweet from a UK-based Islamist gained attention as he labelled @BorisJohnson a “Zionist Pig”. He is Mohammed Al-Massari – a man whose history is intertwined with the history of extremism in the UK. Naturally all roads lead back to @JeremyCorbyn /1
You can read more about the tweet that Massari sent here - arabnews.com/node/1530366/w…. He also doubled-down on his tweet in English, see below. /2
Massari, a Saudi dissident in exile, gained asylum in the UK in 1994. He was linked to the Islamist group Hizb-ut Tahrir and then went on to be a key figure within the now proscribed terror organisation Al-Muhajiroun alongside Omar Bakri Mohammed /3
Here is an image from the 90’s of Massari (far-right) alongside Bakri Mohammed (centre) and Abu-Hamza (left). All three figures played a central part in fomenting the jihadist scene in the UK. /4
In 1996 Massari successfully fought a deportation attempt by the British government. Efforts to support him were spearheaded in Parliament by George Galloway and backed by @JeremyCorbyn. Note this EDM from 1994 - edm.parliament.uk/early-day-moti… /5
This wasn’t the only time that @JeremyCorbyn supported and gave backing to Massari. On a further 3 occasions in Parliament Corbyn referenced the case of Massari /6
In January 1996. /7
In February 1996. /8
And in September 1998. /9
Notably, from the Parliamentary exchange in 1998, former veteran Jewish Labour MP David Winnick found it not so difficult to highlight and make clear to @JeremyCorbyn that Massari held views "of a certain racial minority" that "were almost Nazi-like" /10
This is because Massari’s extremism was well-documented and this included a history of extreme antisemitism. In 1996 Massari called for the “annihilation” of Jews, and wrote that "Jews are a nation of cowards...their annihilation is not difficult for Muslims" /11
His comments were reported in @TheTimes in June 1996 (see below). The @BoardofDeputies described the remarks as "incitement to murder" /12
Furthermore, Massari admitted after 9/11 that he had helped Osama Bin Laden open a UK office in 1994. "He told the Five Live Report: "They came and said we want to do political work, we want to have an office like you. We said you're welcome." - bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pr… /13
"The Five Live Report asked Al Massari why he had helped Bin Laden. He responded: "It's the same cause. It's the same ideas." Asked whether he would help him again Al Massari replied: "Yeah, if we can help anything, why not?"" /14
Massari has since gone on to be embroiled in countless other controversies related to his extremist views, open support for violent jihad and backing given to Bin Laden /15
Just another example to add to the long list of despicable extremists and antisemites to whom @JeremyCorbyn has given his support. /END
