This is a Mexican National Guard soldier rightly not allowing her to commit a crime. The whole tone of the article, which suggests Mexico should just allow anyone to freely cross into the US, is ridiculous.
P.s worth noting that he was just trying to get her not to cross. She ended up ignoring him and crossing anyways, then being taken into CBP custody. Which shows just how little these soldiers are actually doing to stop the flow of migrants.
Last point: main reason soldier stopped her wasn’t even to stop illegal crossing, but to warn her against crossing a river with her kid. Guess who activists would have blamed if her child got hurt?

Reuters and other outlets are encouraging behavior that puts migrants at risk.
The deaths at the border are being caused by migrants making dangerous choices to illegally cross that put themselves and their children in danger. Those choices are being encouraged by the press, certain politicians, and open-border activists.
