Many years ago, a furry convention decided to try something different. They got a corporate sponsorship. Yes, over a decade ago, a furry convention had an actual, on-site corporate sponsor. ... cont'd
This corporate sponsor was "Monster Energy Drink", and they provided free energy drinks plus giveaway swag to lots and lots of attendees. ... cont'd
The attendees did not seem to mind the free stuff, and one attendee even decided to make a fursuit based on the product. That fursuit was named "Monster Roo" ... cont'd 
Over time, that sponsorship ended. And you know what? *gasp* The furry fandom survived and got even bigger. That company did not take over the fandom, or start influencing furry conventions. ... cont'd
You see my friends, anyone who has ever been on the executive board of a convention's parent company knows just how difficult it would be for a company to try to "take over" or do anything to influence the fandom at large. ... cont'd
Heck, just trying to get folks to agree on a theme or guests of honor can sometimes be quite the chore. Not to mention that for profit conventions exist and thrive in our fandom. Again, *gasp* people are attending conventions who exist to profit their "owners". ... cont'd.
And yet...the fandom survives and thrives. My point here is this...if a convention is building a relationship with a sneaker company, or a beverage company, or whatever...great, more power to them. It may be something necessary for them. ... cont'd
Perhaps that is a way for them to improve equipment, or lower food and beverage costs, or any of a myriad of things that may keep the convention going. ... cont'd
The furry fandom has endured and survived many different issues and problems. And will continue to fo so. But before one begins chastising and criticizing, perhaps one should look at history and see what happened before. Doing so could possibly lower drama levels. :)
