When you see figures like this, you wonder what there is left to discuss. The land and water demand and greenhouse gas emissions of animal protein production are so much greater than those of plant protein that these debates are really just a matter of science vs shouting

What we're witnessing is full-spectrum institutional failure. This morning I've tweeted about the appeasement of ecocide by governments, a major conservation NGO and the UK's @ScienceMuseum. You will now struggle to find any large institution standing up for humanity and nature.
Almost everywhere, among large organisations, we see cowardice and appeasement. If you want courage and defiance, you must look instead to independent campaigners and self-organised movements, like @ExtinctionR and the #YouthStrikes. Money and power corrupt the rest.

This position is sadly consistent with @Natures_Voice’s long-term uselessness on the grouse issue. It is not as if we are short of evidence or don’t know what needs to be done.
