Lot of stuff to unpack. Exploitation of ephemeral credentials from instance roles, the attacker being a former @awscloud employee, CapitalOne’s decent-but-not-quite-good-enough security posture…

But also their rapid response once clued in to what had happened.
And credit where due: their CEO gave a full-throated apology.

Now, let’s talk @awscloud. It made $8.34 billion in revenue over the quarter, but analysts were expecting $8.5 billion so Amazon stock dropped because financial analysts suck at their job of forecasting.

Now let's not kid ourselves here--they put the boots to Google harder than I do:
And I flat out disagree with "Azure has crappy downtime." I think Azure has customers who scream their heads off when their Sharepoint cluster drops a packet.

1. Lots of people are concerned about the security of their private data, e.g., personal records, financial account information, prostitute phone numbers, ….. oops? Did I actually type that?
2. Anyway, you get idea. Securing data is big business, too, both in the private sector but especially the gov't sector where a ton of stuff is classified – or Privacy Act-protected – seemingly just to keep it from the public who have a right to know since we’re paying for it all
3. It seems like there is a disclosure of a major data compromise almost weekly in the news these days. Here’s a great web link that details major data breaches around the world by year going back to 2012. Quite amazing stuff!

Thoughts on #uncivilwar #Brexit
1) I thought it was good on the whole. Lots of details not covered, focused a lot on Cummings & didn't cover the corruption in Vote Leave enough but at the end of the day it's a drama, not a documentary
2) there's a lot of stuff Brexit geeks like me would have like to have seen covered but as it was, there was a lot of material in there which they covered at breakneck speed.

Couple of things jumped out for me though
3) Firstly the mood at the end of the film captured I think the mood in the country now. There is no joy in #Brexit, no triumphant outpouring.

No one is getting what they want, and Leave supporters are blaming others for Brexit not working

Unpopular opinion of the day: #phishing awareness campaigns and teaching your users to stay frosty is a close to useless endeavour. A waste of resources. Read on to see my point (1/n) /cc @troyhunt @randomdross @sirdarckcat
I know anti-phishing is a business that feeds a lot of people but the way this war is fought today just seems off to me.
First, I differentiate targeted phishing campaigns (usually APTs) from massive or moderately massive phishing. I don't think I need to point out why you can't fight the former with awareness.

UCC had opportunity to comment on the #Data.Protection & Privacy Bill. The enactment of this law is long overdue. A comprehensive law on the collection & processing personal information gives effect to the right to Privacy envisaged under Article 27(2) of the Constitution
UCC welcome the protections offered by the Bill in terms of export of data, breach notification requirements, data subjects access rights, automated decision making, compensation and the right to be forgotten and provision for financial and penal sanctions for breach of the law.
Distinction between Data collectors & data controllers.
The Bill should however clarify & distinguish Data Collectors, from Data Processors & Data Controllers. Clause 2 is inconsistent with international good practice which provides for two broad categories of Data Controllers
