Dominion Voting Systems has been awarded a $107M contract to replace GA’s voting machines before the 2020 elections. The current machines are DREs that do not produce a paper trail, making GA one of only a few states without paper records of its elections.
The new machines are touchscreen-based like the DREs, but act as ballot-marking devices that print out a ballot with each voter’s selections. Despite the addition of a paper trail, there is opposition to the new machines.
Dr. Wenke Lee, the only cybersecurity expert on the commission that reviewed voting systems ahead of the choice, voted against the recommendation to adopt this type of machine.
Dr. Lee was concerned that the machines could malfunction and print incorrect ballots, and that many voters will not check their ballots before casting them, so they will not catch any mistakes. @brfreed for @State_Scoop with more: statescoop.com/georgia-buys-n…
