It's been 2 weeks. Not since they've been put into cages, just since I've started reading these quotes every day and painting one. It's exhausting to just do this, I'm so tired. And I haven't even had to see the inside of these places. I haven't had to hear these words in person.
I haven't been trapped or had my family taken from me or had to flee. It's the details that wear on me. They take away any possessions these people managed to make it to the border with. Everything but the clothes on their back, and in some cases, those too.
They had so little to tie them to home, and then, in a careless moment, even that is thrown away right in front of them. Then at least they have those they arrived with, often family, until all the sudden they don't have that either. They have nothing. We have to keep calling.
We can't give up now. @senatemajldr pushed a bill through committee today to allow our terrorist in chief @realDonaldTrump to detain these children INDEFINITELY. Our law says 72 hours, and we're already ignoring it. What will they do to these kids if they know they have FOREVER?
Never again is now, friends.
Whatever you hope you'd have done against Nazis back then, we have concentration camps and Nazis again today. Here's our chance. Don't look away.
History will be written based on what we do RIGHT NOW. In *this* moment. How will you be remembered?
Day 14: “The facility is locked. I cannot leave. I was warned that I would get in trouble. One of the other teen boys got into trouble, and we were told that he was taken to the freezer box, hieleras, as punishment.”
