Lot of discussion the past few days about @ewarren’s “No First Use” remarks.

I still think the whole issue boils down to conflating “preventive” v “preemptive”.

That’s not uncommon, which is why Jack Levy wrote 👇

We're talking a lot about terrorism, but what do we know about it?

This is probably one of the most widely studied recent topics in the Social Sciences.

I say "widely studied in the Social Sciences", because scholars in Economics, Political Science, Criminology, Sociology, and Psychology have all produced recent "surveys of the terrorism literature"
While much of the modern terrorism literature emerged following the 9/11 attacks in 2001, it was in psychology that we see one of the first 21st century review pieces (and it pre-dated 9/11).

Martha Crenshaw produced this review in @PolPsyISPP in 2000

Great points by @m_poznansky regarding the original design of the 2nd Amendment.

One more thing...
No matter how one interprets the 2nd Amendment, there is a long history -- going back to the British -- of treating the production & sale of firearms as different from other arms.

Wonderfully captured in historian Priya Satia's 2018 book "Empire of Guns"

Another day at the palace means another day to conform to their standards. This was never how Joohyun wanted to live her life. Paparazzis everywhere and everyone updating on her life. The only way to keep them out was to be cold towards them.
The highlight of her everyday was helping out in the orphanage run by nuns in the outskirts of the city. Where she goes by the name ‘Irene’.

It is where she becomes herself without the worry of people following her every move.

I've spent a lot of time the past few days thinking abt social media + how it influences teens. My students read this article yesterday and had a great discussion about ideas that are introduced as a joke and then become discussion-worthy on social media nytimes.com/2019/03/18/tec…
One of the sticking points in their discussion was that Youtubers like Pewdiepie, who has been called out for racist and anti-semitic words, is just entertainment. They compared him and others to South Park and similar controversial TV shows from the 90s-00s.
There were a variety of opinions about whether all teens (and kids even younger) can differentiate between good and bad satire. But what most agreed on was that the level of access is so different today.

Many Iranians criticised one of BBC Farsi’s journalists for her comments on Iran-Hezbullah relations. Some have even threatened her that she won’t be allowed to go back to Iran after the fall of the regime. Many Iranians believe some of @bbcpersian journalists support the regime.
In the past few days some anti-BBC slogans have been chanted by the protesters in Iran. In a comment one of BBCFarsi journalist claims that ‘Trump wants to turn Iran into another Syria by starting a civil war etc’. The same propaganda which is pumped out by Iranian state media.
Some of @BBCPersian journalists block anyone who criticises them. One of its journalists in particular has publicly supported A.Khamenei on his social media pages. I have written to a few MPs and the BBC about. Will see if BBC is interested in opening an investigation.
