This day 50 years ago, they wheeled a television set into the lodge at our summer camp outside of Readfield, Maine and we watched, mesmerized, as men first walked on the moon.
I remember getting peppered with questions about it from the other kids because it had become known that under my bed I kept a big box full of every clipping I could find about the Apollo program. My parents sent some. I found some.
Back home in New Jersey, I had two tall file cabinets full of more clippings and file after file of documents from NASA which responded to each one of my letters with more pictures of astronauts, brochures and press releases.

Rolleston was a segregationist. Not only did he refuse to accept black patrons at his motel, but he suggested that Atlanta's public schools avoid desegregation by selling school buildings to private corporations, thereby limiting government dictates. /2

16 yrs ago today, the US-led invasion of Iraq began. All this time later, we’re still stuck in two seemingly endless wars. As I recently laid out, our troops & our nation deserve better. There are so many steps we can take to ensure our military remains the strongest in the world
Despite the President’s latest proposal, we can’t just keep throwing together huge defense budgets every year & think that’s enough.
Our power abroad stems from our strength here on U.S. soil. It’s past time we recognize that funding our domestic priorities—like education, healthcare and green energy—actually bolsters our national security.

Today's @GoogleDoodles celebrates tactile paving: an innovation that transformed the way those who are visually impaired navigate.

In 1967, 52 yrs ago today, the 1st tactile paving was laid near Okayama School for the Blind in Japan.

Since they've been adopted across the globe.
In 1965, to help a friend whose vision was becoming impaired, Seiichi Miyake spent his own money to invent tactile paving to ease navigation of public spaces for those w/ #visualimpairments.

Tactile tiles spread rapidly after their widespread adoption by Japan National Railways.
What do the different tactile paving types mean?🛣

Raised dots aligned: drop curb crossing
Raised dots offset: mind the gap
Lozenge: on street platform edge (eg team)
Lots thin raised lines: hazard (eg steps)
Thicker spaced out raised lines: cycle way

1/ I'm stunned, but not surprised by AT&T's decision to extended their #Friends licensing deal with Netflix through 2019. A perfect example of, despite saying they were committed to winning in SVOD, Big Media wants to have their cake, eat it to - and then hope they get a 3rd cake
2/ #Friends is one of Netflix's most valuable titles. It's one of the most celebrated sitcoms, one of Netflix's most popular series, and has a whopping 236 episodes of tonnage - and a fervent fanbase
3/ AT&T could (and should) have simply moved #Friends to HBO, their leading SVOD asset. Imagine the impact on customer acquisition - all of a sudden the press coverage inundates all Friends fans to get HBO, if they haven't already!
