It looks like @FoundersMin has only honored requests from white males to be removed from their film.

They have yet to acknowledge similar requests from women and people of color, e.g. @ashleymeaster and @pastordmack .
(I believe that @FoundersMin ‘s official response to Rachel Denhollander was tendered via her husband.)
@FoundersMin , if you want CT and IS to go away, consider changing your conduct. At the moment, your behavior only serves to fortify your opponents’ position.
And if I’m not mistaken, @FoundersMin hasn’t even approved @ashleymeaster ‘s comment on their website from several days ago:
What other comments haven’t they approved? #smh . For all their talk of free markets, @FoundersMin isn’t too keen on the free exchange of ideas.
If I’m wrong about @FoundersMin ‘s record on any of these points, I’m happy to be corrected.

I’ve been asked why I spend time writing posts specifically about @FoundersMin and related matters (see posts on SSJG, culture wars, ultra-complementarianism and masculinity). I’ve asked myself the same question. Here’s what I got:
I became active on Twitter a few months ago in order to advance a book project on evangelicalism, politics and institutional justice. Almost immediately, I became aware of the Statement on Social Justice and the Gospel and organizations that affirm it, like @FoundersMin.
This has been an unsettling experience for me. Before disagreeing with someone, I try to sympathize with their position as much as possible. Ideally, I can argue for their position better than they can before I ever voice my disagreement. That’s what I’m trained to do.

In describing his own commitment to ultra-complementarianism, Owen Strachan, an associate professor of Christian theology at Midwestern Seminary, notes that: “For millennia, followers of God have practiced what used to be called patriarchy and is now called complementarianism.”
He goes on to observe the distinct roles assigned to men and women:

“Husbands will have long days and experience physical problems from work; when given children by God, wives will face some stress and tiredness from caring for active little ones all day. …
Men can image Christ the savior-king by folding laundry on occasion, by getting down on the floor to play with their kids, and by doing dishes when they can.

A simple analogy for those who think past injustice is no longer morally salient:

Imagine an athletic competition, e.g. a basketball game.
If my team is up by 40pts at halftime because we cheated throughout the first half, and then we decide to abide by some procedurally fair set of rules in the second half but the score carries over from the first half, the game is still fundamentally unjust. It’s a sham.
Some people think that as long as we’re abiding by basically fair procedures at this very moment (more or less), we should just forget about the fact that one team entered the fair play portion of the contest with a 40 point cushion.

This is from an interview about how The Atlantic wants to diversify its writers & editors - but Goldberg doesn't seem to know that people other than white men write longform?
I think he thinks he's saying something good - like, that more women and people of color have to be tapped to write cover stories. Which is true! But this is not exclusively an "experience versus potential" issue - it's a "you don't read enough people who aren't white men" issue
I think he's taking this piece of advice he got from his wife and applying it a little too broadly. [Insert Wife Guy joke here]

Looks like we're poised to call a vote on the Fair Tax amendment around 1pm today. Will post updates in this thread.

This is maybe the most important vote I'll take in my entire career. Let me explain.
In their infinite wisdom, the drafters of the 1970 Illinois Constitution put in a provision mandating one flat tax rate on all income.

That's resulted in a broken system where poor people pay way more in taxes than the 1%. (Sales, excise, and other taxes being very regressive.)
It's also meant that we have a revenue crisis in the state. Because taxing one person means taxing everyone, politicians are reluctant to raise revenues. So spending on basic obligations — schools, healthcare, etc. — have outpaced tax receipts.

“white feminism” isn’t simply about being white & identifying as feminist. It’s an ideology that professes to be “feminism” but intersects w/white supremacy such that it privileges the concerns, identities, & perspectives exclusively of white women + represents them as universal
what we refer to as white feminism might in fact more accurately be called white supremacist feminism.
Textbook example of white [supremacist] feminism: the @womensmarch celebrates the legacy of a woman who was deeply implicated in violence against women of color both domestically & abroad. Once again throwing women of color under the bus/ignoring our experiences & lives.

Seriously though, we told folk Bernie and Jill couldn’t be trusted a long fucking time ago, but y’all didn’t wanna listen to us because we didn’t fit the preferred narrative (read propaganda). The suppression of truth was just as prolific as the propagation of lies in 2016.
