I know it’s not comfortable to stick your neck out on this but if you realize liberal gun control will only result in the increased criminalization and brutalization of our most vulnerable communities you need to speak up about it because that’s the way the wind’s blowing.
It’s become so moralized because people blame the guns for the white supremacist and misogynistic violence but the fact is that stricter gun laws will always, always be used to lock up more young men of color and kill even more of them on sight. That should matter to people.
And young white men whose ideologies serve the ruling class and the state will always find a way to get around those laws because they’ll barely apply to them in practice.
Also: exposing people with mental illnesses to stricter government surveillance and supervision is basically a fascist dream. People need to realize what they’re actually advocating for.
If you’re looking for something to *do* about these shootings, focus your attention on white supremacy and misogyny, because that’s what’s fueling nearly every single mass shooting. Organize with antifascists and communists who oppose the state that encourages these shootings.
As I said, it’s very moralized; I’m sure that I’ve already lost a few liberal followers who saw my first post and immediately assumed I’m a terrible person. (You’re right, just not for that reason.) I’m begging you to take a sober look at your proposed cure-all for gun violence.
