There was another mass shooting overnight, this time in Dayton.

This follows the attack in El Paso, as well as mass shootings in Philadelphia, Brooklyn and Gilroy in the past week, and many other incidents of gun violence across the country.

Following the 9/11 attacks, the US government took an aggressive stance toward preventing and punishing acts of Islamist-inspired violence inside US borders, defining it as "international terrorism."

In contrast, there is no domestic terrorism statute.
Cases involving white supremacists are typically not prosecuted in US federal courts under terrorism statutes because they don't involve "foreign terrorist organizations."

They often land in state courts, becoming drug, fraud or murder cases.

Were gun control the remedy mass shootings would be rare. Not only were there fewer firearm laws many decades ago, but in the 40s and 50s NYC boys would often take guns on the subway because they had rifle clubs at school. So is access to firearms really the problem's root cause?
As for the El Paso shooter's motivation, there are people who will do evil in a cause's name regardless of its nobility or ignobility. The real question here is, why are we seeing so much more evil in America now than in bygone days?
