As discussed last week after #Gilroy & #ElPaso , President Trump makes things worse. “As protesters clash at far-right rally in Portland, Trump suggests naming Antifa a terrorist group - NBC News” apple.news/AdYeOTJjYSm23j…
Again, if President Trump wants to talk about Antifa, let’s roll out the numbers
Rather than play the President’s game on Antifa, reporters could challenge him by asking about other organizations - here’s one that comes to mind. vice.com/en_us/article/…

Op-Ed: We have studied every mass shooting since 1966. Here's what we learned about the shooter. @latimes

latimes.com/opinion/story/…
In the last week, more than 30 people have died in three separate mass shootings in Gilroy, El Paso and Dayton, Ohio. We believe that analyzing and understanding data about who commits such massacres can help prevent more lives being lost. 2) #Gilroy #ElPaso #Dayton #massacres
For two years, we’ve been studying the life histories of mass shooters in the US for a project funded by the Natl Institute of Justice, the research arm of the U.S. DOJ. 3)

Seems necessary to post this after #ElPaso “America Has A White Nationalist Terrorism Problem. What Should We Do?” Wrote this after ⁦@Morning_Joe⁩ segment in April, problem remains & we’ve done nothing fpri.org/article/2019/0…
Pattern of white supremacist inspired attacks is remarkably similar, but directionally diffferent. Jihadists were top-down driven (Directed, Networked, Inspired) But these domestic attacks are bottom-up (Inspired, now leading to Networked)
now have “ Cascading Terrorism” from domestic extremism, where successful attacks inspire others on verge of violence move forward. #Gilroy followed by #ElPaso. I’m worried today’s attack might touch off others msnbc.com/morning-joe/wa…

Not even one week later, another tragic mass shooting. I am thinking of our fellow Americans in #ElPaso.
But let’s be clear: these two incidents weren’t even the only two mass shootings in the past 7 days. See for yourself >> massshootingtracker.org/data
The numbers are shocking, but we must also remember that each life lost to gun violence is not just a statistic. Their loved ones will never see them again. And survivors may endure lifetimes of physical and mental trauma.

In the aftermath of the #Gilroy garlic festival shooting, we tracked the various themes and narratives as they spread and morphed on Twitter. As is often the case, people rushing to post mis- and disinformation was not helpful.

cc: @ZellaQuixote
@ZellaQuixote Despite lack of information, people tweeted a variety of claims as events unfolded. Some examples:

- shooter's age (20s? 30s?)
- shooter was a Trump supporter
- shooting was racially motivated
- two shooters
- distraction from something more nefarious (#FalseFlag)
@ZellaQuixote The discovery of the shooter's apparent Instagram page fueled further speculation. References to "Might is Right" (which does promote Anglo-Saxon supremacy) was used to support claims of a white supremacist motive, while an Iranian flag was presented as evidence to the contrary.

It should not be legal to buy a weapon of war that can shoot 15 people in under a minute.
It wasn't legal to buy such a weapon in California where the #GilroyShooting took place.

Men under the age of 25 do not have a fully developed prefrontal cortex.
Their judgment and impulse control are severely restricted.
Maybe men under 25 should not be able to buy weapons, since they are half of #massshooters in the U.S.
mentalhealthdaily.com/2015/02/18/at-…
A 19 year old like Legan without a fully developed prefrontal cortex should not be able to go to a different state and buy a weapon of war.
Period.

The #Gilroy shooter bought his gun in Nevada, which has some of the most lax gun laws in the nation. You don’t need a permit to buy a gun in Nevada and there are no mandatory waiting periods before purchasing firearms.
This study found that when a gun show takes place in Nevada, rates of gun deaths & injuries rise in neighboring California during the next two weeks -- meaning that stronger gun laws in states like CA are undermined by weak gun laws in states like Nevada.

From the same study: Gun shows in Nevada are associated with increases in fatal & nonfatal gun injuries in California -- but gun shows in California are not. (Likely because California has more restrictions on gun sales).

Gilroy shooter identified as Santino William Legan. A fascist, white supremacist, making the Gilroy attack a terrorist event.

Posted "Read 'Might Is Right' by Ragnar Redbeard," a misogynist, white power, pro racial eugenics previous to attack. manifesto edition.cnn.com/2019/07/29/us/…
At least 4 people were killed, including a 6-year-old first grader, and 15 others were injured during the fascist white supremacist terrorist attack at Gilroy. #GilroyGarlicFestival
It is important the motives of these terrorist attacks are known so we as a society can formulate a plan to prevent them; outside of obvious firearm reform, fascism and racism are part of an extremist population that will circumvent existing laws to commit attrocities. #Gilroy

I don't want to hear any B.S. about how the #Gilroy shooter is a "white supremacist" and therefore should be associated with the political right.

His interest in the work of Ragnar Redbeard should raise questions about his hedonistic, Satanic worldview...

THREAD.
2) This, for instance, is a bad take by a bad faith actor:
3/ Indeed Might is Right is drastically misogynistic, and Anglo-supremacist, but it doesn't find its philosophical root on the right.

The book is anti-Christian, and anti-Demos.

While 18th Century rightists may have been demos-sceptics, they were certainly not anti-Christian.

Six-year-old Steven Romero identified as one of the 3 people killed in the #Gilroy mass shooting tonight, a dozen more were injured, status ranges from fair to critical. #GilroyGarlicFestival nbcbay.com/8rQGQDV
Steven Romero's mother and other family members were also injured in the #Gilroy shooting; due to the economically inhumane US medical system, they now face thousands upon thousands in fees for medical and funeral costs on top of their grief and trauma. #GilroyGarlicFestival
If you live in the #Gilroy area (or not), seek out information on how to assist this family & others. Often forgotten during the conversations surrounding these events is how victims are often driven into debt due to medical and funeral costs. Try to help.

OMG >> MASS SHOOTING AT #GILROY GARLIC FESTIVAL. POLICE SAY THE SCENE IS ACTIVE. Prelim reports - white male gunman.

Gilroy is south of San Francisco. Mostly a working class area, in the heart of California farm country. Lots of immigrants and families in attendance, no doubt.💔
3 dead. If #GilroyGarlicFestivalShooting turns out to be another Nazi attack, what then? Demagogue POTUS just keeps doing fascist rallies? Continues his racist attacks? Repubs keep denying reality?

Trump’s opened a Pandora’s box of hate. If he was once, he’s no longer legitimate
