There is no such thing as “gun rights.”

The term creates a dangerous false equivalence.
The second amendment deals with well regulated militias.

The third amendment deals with billeting of troops.

Relevant in the 18th century. Less so today.
To say that the 2nd amendment protects a right to unregulated private gun ownership and precludes any gun laws is as wrong-headed as saying the 3rd protects the right to unregulated private property ownership and precludes any property laws.

It’s dangerous category fraud.
Gun regulations, restrictions, and even outright bans are in no way incongruent with a free society.

Suggesting gun ownership represents a right on the level with free speech or freedom of assembly degrades and endangers these load-bearing human rights.

Which may be the point.
One thing that absolutely endangers free speech and free assembly and free press and free religious expression?

An anonymous army of hate-filled men with guns.

Gun defenders know this.

100% gun ban now.

This is just such offensive horseshit it's almost difficult to know precisely *how* to be offended by it. It creates a gravity from which no shame can escape.

Anything is allowable, anything at all really, except making white people feel uncomfortable about racism for a second.
Trump has spent the last four years—as candidate and as president—sending a clear message, which violent men have often attuned to, and acted upon, most recently this week.

He knew he'd be immediately exonerated if he made the slightest lazy gesture toward decency.

He was right
He knew it because he's a con man, and even a profoundly ignorant con man possesses keen knowledge of whatever it is their mark desires

White America is his mark

And what white America wants is to be innocent

We're willing to believe anything, as long as it keeps us innocent

Remind me when the president not coddling or outright encouraging white supremacists is like t-ball where you let the kid take as many swings as he needs and then cheer like crazy when he finally manages to weakly connect on the 87th attempt.
The story “the president actually condemned murderous white supremacists, which marks a clear departure from his usual rhetoric” should be a devastating critique, not some gutless cheer.

Tonight daddy didn’t hit mommy as hard as he usually does, what a hero he is.

You know, when you start to write you barely let yourself dare hope that you’ll reach a single person. To think that you’ll reach authors whose work you’ve enjoyed and respected for years is ... I’m not going to lie, it’s a whole lot.

The Constitution talks about well regulated militias being essential

Our laws need to better accommodate and recognize modern militias as a legitimate form of protection and as having certain rights.
Imagine a modern militia drone surveillance platoon, voluntarily flying drones along the border and reporting illicit activities to arresting authorities.
The Constitution clearly layed or a framework for this sort of civillian activity, but it had been usurped like so many constitutional rights
