That argument about the use of the term MAP over "pedo" taught me something deeply disappointing, last night.

"Pedos" are easy to hate. They target children, so screw them, right? We can do whatever we want to them because they're not human, or so the argument wants us to believe.
But where did that argument come from?
Experts? Therapists? Criminal analysts?
No. It came from police.

So when we start using language like "Minor Attracted Person" rather than "pedo", that argument become uncomfortable. Why?
Maybe because the word "person" is in the name.
Maybe because it untangles the distinction between a predator and someone who simply needs therapy.

Regardless, the answer to the sex crime problem - to preventing acts of harm against children - is in cognitive behavioral therapy. It's been proven time and again.

So before we can change this, before we can reduce/prevent sex crime and take power back from police, you have to ask yourself:

To be 100% absolutely crystal clear, this is not in defense of child sex abusers, or sex abusers who intentionally offend.
This is simply stating that there is a proven solution to this matter, and that it requires all of us to gain a better understanding of its complexities.

Y'all, none of this is to say that you can't block problematic people.
But if you want to fix this problem on a higher level, you should also be pressing for necessary systematic changes through legislative channels.
