One thing that I wish more people realized: intelligence is not something uniquely human that has evolved specifically for homo sapiens over the past 300,000 years. Many species share much of the same cognitive building blocks we possess
In particular the cognition of great apes is very close to our own, even though we branched out 6-7 M years ago.

Our evolutionary cousins (other homo branches, australopithecus) would have been even closer. Unfortunately we can't include them in psychology studies anymore
The thing is, it takes a *very* long time to evolve new cognitive building blocks. Seemingly much longer than a mere handful of millions of years.

Humans have vanishingly little innate knowledge about the visual appearance of objects in the world. But we do have heightened sensitivity to certain textures or shapes characteristic of deadly animals (snakes & spiders mostly). This is evolutionarily ancient, not specific to us.
The reasons we have so little innate visual knowledge are interesting. Basically, any visual knowledge involves many bits of information, and has to be encoded via hardwiring connections in the visual cortex (or before). This is an extremely low bandwidth process.
Because it's so slow, it's only applicable for information that is stable over hundreds of millions of years. Very little of the visual world is stable over that time frame (e.g. the visual difference between male & female faces cannot be hardcoded because it changes too quickly)

What's a ML problem you are interested in but for which you haven't found a good tutorial / introduction?
Preferably a *task* rather than a *technique* (what you are trying to do vs. how you are trying to do it). Too many people jump to tools that may be far from optimal when simpler, better solutions exist
Also, if you are working with a specific dataset, please describe it

1) Don’t Put More than Four People Onstage

I know you’re under pressure from marketing. I know you need to feature the sponsor. I know you don’t want to axe the one speaker with something to say.

But if you have over three panelists, there won't be a real conversation. Don’t.
2) Keep Introductions to a Minimum

Don't have someone introduce someone who introduces someone else. And never take more than 20 seconds for any single intro.

Much of the audience will already know who’s onstage. And everyone else can consult the program, or the internet.

One weird thing that has been lost to history is that the edgy, kitschy, weird white boy fascism we've been witnessing over the past few years is not a new development. And I'm not talking about its precursors in actual Nazi Germany.

I saw something like it 20 years ago.
In the mid to late 90's, mostly concentrated in the "zine scene" of the time, and around the fringes of industrial music, there was a very small sub-subculture of weird, "anti-PC" white guys who hated feminism, flirted with fashy aesthetics (but only as a joke u see), and-
-were "interested" in things like eugenics, serial killers, pedophiles, villains of history, etc. They claimed not to really "promote" this stuff. They had an affect of detached curiosity. If you ever raised questions, they would start whining about "political correctness".

Something I wish more people would realise is how alienating it is to be poor/broke when you have financially stable/comfortable friends.
I can't count the number of events I've turned down because I couldn't afford gifts, transport, or a meal. I often make up excuses at the last minute (e.g. "the kids are sick").
I've lost friends because I couldn't afford to attend their weddings overseas or even in different cities.
