HOLY MOLY. Mitch McConnell just wrote an NYT op-ed urging Dems to keep the filibuster, and threatening them if they scrap it. This is how you know it's a *really* good idea to scrap it - Mitch is scared. nytimes.com/2019/08/22/opi…
Mitch has been promising to be the "Grim Reaper" of progressive legislation in 2021. In response, there's been a growing support among Dem to scrap the filibuster. Now Mitch is scared, and he's saying "you better not take away my power or you'll be sorry!" 
Mitch understands that if Dems take the Presidency, House, & Senate, they'll try to pass big reforms to democracy, environment, health care, gun violence prevention etc. He also knows he can kill all of it with the filibuster. So he's coming out strong for the filibuster now.
Like basically everything Mitch does, this action is riddled with hypocrisy. Mitch has gutted the filibuster TWICE since Trump took office to jam nominees. This is how he got Gorsuch and Kavanaugh with fewer than 60 votes. He pins the blame on Dems, as always. What a joke.
Short version: Mitch desperately wants to keep the filibuster because he knows it gives him a veto over everything Dems want to do. So for those interested in saving democracy, it's never been clearer that the filibuster must go. Thanks for making the case, Mitch!
Also for the record: Instead of "Grim Reaper" I wanted to start calling him "Lich Mitch" or "Mitch the Lich," but @Leahgreenb just said I was a nerd for knowing what a lich is. /end en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lich
