The biggest debate in the Democratic primary is over whether or not to prioritize saving democracy after 2020. From @OsitaNwanevu: newrepublic.com/article/154935…
In about 20 years, 70% of the country will live in 15 states. The more conservative 30% will be spread across 35 states, represented by 70 senators. That's the ballgame folks - forget progressive federal legislation. It'll be over.
In 2021, we either make D.C. a state, give self-determination to PR, secure elections, expand the vote, unpack the courts, tackle campaign finance, invest in public media, etc - or we give future Mitch McConnells permanent control of the Senate, and by connection the courts.
Moscow Mitch will kill these reforms with the filibuster if he can - he calls himself the "Grim Reaper" and calls these pro-democracy reforms "socialism." He knows reactionary conservatives lose if democracy wins. He's terrified of democracy and will fight it tooth and nail.
That's why we're pushing Dem candidates on the filibuster now. This isn't a nerdy debate over congressional procedure. It's about whether American democracy declines into permanent white supremacist plutocracy after 2020 regardless of who wins. /end nofilibuster.org
