Here's what I don't understand about cops and Daniel Pantaleo.

I don't have the slightest impulse to defend terrible criminal defense attorneys.

Attorneys who fall asleep trying capital cases and whose clients end up on death row - high on my list of most contemptible people.

There's no automatic identification because we are defense attorneys. No, that could be me.

You certainly feel solidarity with your public defender colleagues and often people don't understand how committed public defenders are and so you fight that misconception together.

Of course everyone makes mistakes. We are all human beings and there is certainly no perfect public defender, lawyer - or police officer. All of these jobs are stressful. This is not me trying to be holier than thou.

But killing someone is not a mistake. Using a chokehold is not a slip up.

So just as I can't imagine standing around with colleagues saying, yeah that could be me about the defense attorney who got paid $10,000 and didn't properly defend a man on trial for murder, I don't get the mentality of the cop who says, oh well about Eric Garner being killed.
