In July, a Los Angeles County judge ordered Samuel Bonner released from prison after he had served 37 years. The judge found that the jailhouse informant testimony used at Samuel’s 1983 trial was all lies and that “gross prosecutorial misconduct” occurred. latimes.com/california/sto…
At the hearing, a prosecutor told the judge, “You are considering releasing a convicted murderer.” Judge Lowenthal quickly responded, “Convicted because of prosecutorial misconduct.”
The prosecutor later told the judge that “justice is important” to the DA’s office. Judge Lowenthal responded, “Apparently not in this case.”
After he was released from custody, Samuel Bonner spoke to reporters: “I don’t have to wake up to the control of somebody else. I have more control of my life now, which is a good thing.”
