The European commission will today declare that no-deal Brexit could be "a major disaster" and wants to make available €600m from an emergency fund to help EU27 deal with consequences.

Brexit is a "singular event" that “could constitute a major disaster and therefore the activation of the solidarity principle which is the core of the EUSF* would be justified in order to mitigate those effects," states a leaked copy of proposal.
*The EUSF is the EU's Solidarity Fund, created in 2002 to help member states pay for relief after major disasters caused by natural events such as floods, storms, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, forest fires or drought.
No-deal Brexit is now being classed as a major disaster.
No-deal Brexit is likely to have a "significant" impact on some EU member state finances, says paper.

Gov face costs of recruiting new customs officers and setting up border inspection posts "within a very short time span".
The commission also wants to dip into a fund used for supporting laid-off workers, who lose jobs when factories move abroad - the "Globalisation Adjustment Fund".
Additional to €600m from disaster fund.
The EU draft proposal is clear the EU expects workers to lose jobs because of a no-deal Brexit.

It says the funds are needed to “show solidarity with workers made redundant in the union as a consequence" of a no-deal Brexit.
Above reference to Brexit should read no-deal Brexit, as in rest of the thread.
