Hey - @nfergus I co-wrote the Great Dying paper you’re citing. The implication is the *opposite* of your conclusion, the interpretation in line with the data is that the Earth System is sensitive to atmospheric CO2 levels and human societies are sensitive to climate change. 1/3
The 0.15 deg C cooling in the 1600s is tiny compared the 3 deg C we might see this century. Imagine the impacts of 20 times as much climate change. To be so sanguine about that is to disregard the scientific evidence on the magnitude and impacts of climate change. 2/3
Being a white 55 year old male doesn’t disqualify you from writing about climate change, but having access to a platform without having done the necessary reading is pretty much the definition of entitlement and privilege. It’s neither sexist nor racist to point that out. 3/3
