As parents we have a powerful choice we never had as children: to continue the patterns of the generations before us or break them.
We get to choose what we preserve and what we replace.

It was unsaid but understood that he came less because he was so very anxious to see me play and more because there were no more “I’ll come to the next one’s” left.
It did nothing for me.

Even if I didn’t, I’d be there but I’m lucky to truly love it.

He shakes his head at me and laughs but there’s a cycle there. A new one.
One very different than the one from my childhood.

We get to choose if it is healthy. Or not.
We get to replicate what we loved as kids - and we get to replace what hurt.
We get to decide.

The parent is there because they want to be. The child knows they will be.
That’s our cycle. That’s our normal.
As parents, we get to decide.
I so love that opportunity.
