When Jerry Falwell Jr. took over as president in 2007, the school, which is a nonprofit, had listed assets of just over $259 million on its then most recent IRS Form 990; in its filing for fiscal year ending June 2017, its assets surpassed $2.5 billion.

When Mitch McConnell helped lift Russian sanctions it benefitted an aluminum project in his state of KY involving Oleg Deripaska’s Rusal & Craig Bouchard's Braidy Industries

Bouchard and a colleague were involved in several deals in 2008-2010 w/Russian company Severstal - thread
In August Time reported on the plans by Braidy Industries CEO Craig Bouchard to build the largest aluminum mill in the US for $1.7 billion

In April Bouchard announced Rusal bought a 40% stake in the company for $200 million

Falwell and his wife consolidated power at LU and how Falwell presides over a culture of self-dealing, directing university resources into projects and real estate deals in which his friends and family have stood to make personal financial gains.
Among the previously unreported revelations are Falwell’s decision to hire his son Trey’s company to manage a shopping center owned by LU, Falwell’s advocacy for loans given by LU to his friends, and Falwell’s awarding university contracts to businesses owned by his friends.

What they know is that Liberty has changed. That the university started by the late Rev. Falwell is very different than the one run by his Trump-loyalist son. In candid interviews, sources describe how Jerry and Becki have taken the school in a … new direction. /2
In fact, according to sources, Liberty isn't so much a school as a "real estate hedge fund." These sources have turned over countless emails and contracts to back up these allegations, which @POLITICOMag has scrutinized. Some of those allegations are broken in this story. /3
