Today the House Oversight Committee on Oversight and Reform is holding a hearing on USCIS's elimination of Medical Deferred Action, leaving many sick people out in the dark.

I'm watching this Medical Deferred Action hearing in the background and in his opening statement, Chip Roy has used most of his time not talking about Medical Deferred Action but instead talking about the border and people "trashing" ICE officers.
Really powerful testimony from some of the people who have benefited from the medical deferred action program.
This is extremely hard testimony to watch.

What strength Maria Bueso and Johnathan Sanchez have to come to DC to testify today against the end of Medical Deferred Action!

Now @shobawadhia, one of the foremost experts on Deferred Action, testifies about the long-standing legal authority for Medical Defered Action.

"DHS and INS have used deferred action in medical and humanitarian cases for decades."
@shobawadhia At the end of her remarks, @shobawadhia emphasizes why ending the Medical Deferred Action program was wrong.

"USCIS has a long history and the expertise of handling cases for vulnerable populations and should continue to process humanitarian deferred action cases."
@shobawadhia Excellent conclusion from @shobawadhia in this hearing on the Trump Administration's decision to end USCIS's Medical Deferred Action program.

"Who is served by placing a cancer patient—who might ordinarily request deferred action from USCIS—in the removal process? No one."
@shobawadhia After great testimony, we're now on to former ICE director Thomas Homan, who says: "It is not lawful to have a deferred action program at any federal agency" and only prosecutors can grant it.

USCIS was given the authority to grant deferred action when it was created in 2003!
@shobawadhia At the Medical Deferred Action hearing, Thomas Homan uses his opening to chastise the House for not having hearings on immigration issues HE says are important.

He is extraordinarily unsympathetic to the sick kids literally sitting next to him, arguably ignoring their existence.
@shobawadhia One side at this hearing is asking about the issue the hearing was called for (USCIS's decision to stop granting Medical Deferred Action) and the other side is just randomly airing grievances about the border.

For example, Homan just got asked to testify that open borders = bad.
