No less than a third of all Lib Dem MPs were elected to be MPs for other parties.
Clearly these defections are a coup for the Lib Dems. They play to their message of the extremity of other parties (though in their rhetoric and policy on Brexit they increasingly ape that extremity). They also alloy their status as the home of the most strident remainers...
But...their increasing numbers and depth on the green benches has the drawback of their increasing breadth too; What unites this increasingly disparate group beyond their dislike of Brexit? More ex-Tories will allow Labour/SNP to say little has changed since the Clegg years...
More Tories and Labour defectors who left because of Corbyn also poses a big strategic position for the LDs.

They know that their best chance of stopping Brexit will be to support a Lab minority govt.

They know it, most of their voters know it (and will prob expect it)...
...but more of these sorts of MPs (Umunnas/Gyimahs) who presumably will never support such a government whilst Corbyn is leader make that impossible. I suspect LDs will get into a position (again) where its parliamentary leadership doesn’t behave as many of their voters expect...
And we know how that worked out last time...
