I know this place is so often a disaster zone, but I also think there’s a very real chance I either wouldn’t be alive or would have seriously harmed myself (accidentally or otherwise) at some point had a place like Twitter not appeared in my life when it did. So, thanks all.
I say this because I’m in a very good place — mentally and emotionally, and even physically — today, to be clear. Just thinking about how many people who I first met here play or, for a time, have played such an important role in my life and in helping me through my difficulties.
I talked on here a while ago about how Twitter played a key role in helping me when I was initially dealing with my alcoholism. Here’s that thread:
I’ve also talked in the past about how Twitter has helped me live with bipolar. Here’s that thread:
And, about a month ago, I mentioned that I was dealing with the low end of that one: depression.
Well, talking about it here — and going to therapy and exercising and doing other things to take care of myself — has helped. And, this afternoon, I genuinely thought: I’m back to a good place. And that just made me happy. ☺️
It’s a process, for me a generally cyclical one, but I get through it pretty well these days—and I do so sober & am a better person for that. And, so many nights, mornings, & stuck-in-bed afternoons, Twitter folks, so often people I didn’t even “know,” have been here for me. 💜
I guess what I’m saying is, try to find who and what you need here if you need something. Ask for help. Find safety, and maybe you’ll even end up with happiness. ... With that, and as I always say: Night, all, and let us try to be good to one another — and ourselves.
