The message that is going out here is

Adhering to "tradition" matters even when it comes to vices

Traditional vices are OK - cigarettes, alcohol, cannabis (after all it has a place in Hindu tradition)

Non-Traditional vices are not OK (E-cigs) (even if they are less harmful)
This is a mindset that afflicts much of traditional India - where there is a certain slavish faith in "tradition" and a lack of critical thinking in appraising things on their own merit

That has its plusse

After all as Burke said - the Individual is foolish, the species is wise
But it can be overdone often. And it is overdone in India

E.g.

Most moms will chastise their kids if they have too much potato chips. Or chocolates

The rebukes will be less for traditional "samskaari" indulgences like Samosas, Rasagullas

Even if these are no less harmful
