Here's a few TBT from my #TranslationFail archives to help monoglots understand why it's so incredibly bad immigration officials are using machine translation tools to vet migrants' social media.
This headline *should* say "Police and shock groups evicted a sit-in of people opposing a highway project"
This sentence should say "They tried to hack Mansoor's iPhone using software called Pegasus, which is sold by the Israeli company NSO Group."

Trying various color palettes to highlight the spam... here's the user-to-hashtag network for 17,049 #ميدان_التحرير_الان tweets from Sept 21 until this afternoon. White background w/ labels & spammers highlighted in cyan and on gray w/o labels & green. They look like tumors.

I isolated the spammers and made a user-to-hashtag graph of the trends they targeted. This shows 2741 tweets sent by 38 accounts. 37 of the accounts used @IFTTT and one used Twitter Web App (a now suspended account called ____6HH0). Spam was ~16% of my dataset of 17,049 tweets.

One of the things I find frustrating about software design blogs/books/talks is when they repeat received wisdom about software design without questioning whether it really makes sense anymore. I mean, it might still make sense...but it really might not.

Why didn't he tell anyone about the conservative holy grail, the hacked "Hilary emails"?

Former Trump campaign aide GEORGE PAPADOPOULOS has sworn under oath these key facts:

1. He met "Professor" MIFSUD in early '16

2. MIFSUD told him "Russia" had 1,000's of "Hilary emails"

These come from his "statement of the offence" to the FBI, submitted to federal court
PAPADOPOULOS supposedly tells ALEXANDER DOWNER about this in a "drunken conversation" at Kensington Wine Rooms, May '16

DOWNER sits on it, eventually getting telling the FBI after he sees hacked DNC emails being released

Found 450 accounts.
About half of them have their language set to 'ru'.

newer bots on the left older ones on the right.
fair warning there my be a couple "false positives" due to people not being very smart and tweeting links to #http://votyus.me and #http://realusa.site
I have tried to eliminate them but haven't had a whole lot of time the last few days.
