Two dozen Democrats have signed on to impeachment inquiry overnight, the fastest rate of increase yet. But in order to actually pass any articles of impeachment, Pelosi still needs to find 53 more Democratic votes. wapo.st/2mYBJzB

Those responding that Pelosi has or will immediately get those 53 votes seem to have a different interpretation of what Pelosi's been doing for the last few months than I do.

So the upshot to Giuliani's claim is that the text he tweeted () shows Volker (who works for State) connecting him with Yermak (Zelensky aide) on 7/19.

Says meeting in August with Yermak was finalized on 7/22, before the 7/25 Trump-Zelensky call.
Claims that this undercuts the whistleblower because WB said the 8/2 meeting was a "direct result" of 7/25 call. What's more, he claims that Zelensky even notes that Giuliani had spoken to an aide prior to the 7/25 call.
However! The WB didn't say it was a "direct result" but that it was "direct follow-up" of the call, which is different in a critical way. Nor does WB assert that Giuliani didn't talk to Yermak until then.

I'm used to being gaslighted by Trump and the GOP, but I'm not going to sit back while the history of how we got to the brink of #impeachment is rewritten in real time.

The Dem establishment (Pelosi, Nadler, etc.) spent all year blocking it and letting Trump run amok.
It took MASSIVE grassroots pressure and mobilization by groups like @IndivisibleTeam, @by_the_ppl, @MoveOn, @StandUpAmerica to get here.

Not to mention the foresight and courage of reps like @RepMaxineWaters, @RashidaTlaib, @RepAlGreen, and others...
@IndivisibleTeam @by_the_ppl @MoveOn @StandUpAmerica @RepMaxineWaters @RashidaTlaib @RepAlGreen Friends of mine like @PamKeithFL, @jljacobson, @sarahkendzior, @murshedz, @ProudResister and many others were on the front lines of the #impeachment push, and were trolled and harassed nonstop for it.

PROGRESSIVES PRESSURED THE ESTABLISHMENT.

DON'T ERASE THEM AGAIN.

CLEARING UP THE #IMPEACHMENT CONFUSION

This is the third article today about the muddled message from Dem leaders.

It's actually very simple:

#Pelosi has no intention of impeaching Trump.

#Nadler was fine with that. Until @LindseyBoylan, a serious challenger, came along...
@LindseyBoylan So @RepJerryNadler has managed to hide behind @SpeakerPelosi and blame her for slow-walking #impeachment.

But for months, he was downplaying #impeachment ... before he got a serious challenger.
@LindseyBoylan @RepJerryNadler @SpeakerPelosi In the end, #Nadler is trying to keep his seat, so he's playing politics with his most sacred duty as a representative, to protect the Constitution.

And he's doing it by pushing what I call "Schrödinger's impeachment" -- an impeachment inquiry that isn't really one.

But let's be clear, as CNN reports today: "Pelosi and Nadler have so far resisted the pressure from within their party to open an inquiry."

I wrote a piece taking apart the specious arguments against #impeachment

You know, things like "the Senate won't convict..." "It's too divisive..." "Trump is goading Dems..." and so on.

FACT: It doesn't matter what the Senate does. The Constitution demands impeachment.
SPIN: Democrats need to gather more evidence to make an airtight case for impeachment.

A note on #impeachment -

In a court of law, under non-presidential circumstances, impeachment is a tool litigation attorneys use to discredit the opposing side's witnesses at trial. When said witness takes the stand under oath attys. present evidence contrary to what the witness
claims. This weakens the other side's case by discrediting impeached witnesses's testimony. Once a witness has been impeached - by presentment of inconsistent testimony - the judge/jury can no longer use the impeached witnesses's testimony in reaching a verdict.
Simply put, they aren't trustworthy. In the case of Presidential impeachment that broad definition of impeachment applies, but the impeachment tool is used for a very different purpose. Under the Constitution, a sitting President cannot be tried in a court of law for anything.
