Some things I said (will turn into proper paper at some point when mad things stop happening in politics)

Definitely non exhaustive. What’s missing?

1) ditch austerity era fiscal rules. See me, @alfie_stirling & @Frank_vanlerven on this neweconomics.org/2019/07/changi…

1/n
2) ditch in planned & fair way all explicit and implicit fossil fuel subsidies / support (semantics be damned) as in this thread.
3) set up a Just Transition Fund for regions and councils to use with unions and citizens to plan for and invest in proper green economic future. Can’t force change on energy intensive areas, need to devolve and enable it. @Nef report on this forthcoming.
4) use models for economic forecasting that assume climate change is actually a thing and can understand its dynamic interaction with economy. Did work a few years ago on this with @frankackerman12 friendsoftheearth.uk/sites/default/…
5) review the Green Book from first principles for climate emergency. Ie rethink discount rates, importance of which is core to Stern argument & shown in new @nef paper for @chemtrust by @Sarahsarnie chemtrust.org/putting-a-pric…. See @meadwaj for @Cmmonwealth common-wealth.co.uk/greening-the-g…
6) fairness at heart of all economic policy design. You can’t force this stuff on people. Taxes must be fair and seen to be fair and revenues earmarked for eg free buses or insulating fuel poor homes. Frequent flyer levies are one example theguardian.com/environment/20…
7) most importantly, make net zero a central part of Treasury mandate - not tacked onto side subservient to main goals. Every policy must be climate policy. neweconomics.org/2017/06/policy… also means aligning fiscal & monetary policy as @Frank_vanlerven argues.
That’s a start. Tip of iceberg but I didn’t have forever to speak. Interested in what your priorities would be.

Worth reinforcing the point of @ChiefExecCCC that all this is likely to be a good macro level economic story but only if we get on with it - world isn’t waiting.
