I’m gonna go on a #dnd rant about #aasimar in a hot second, so hold on to your hats.
My problem with aasimar: why the FUCK are they only allowed to look like humans
Listen. If I was a dwarf cleric from a long-ass line of dwarf clerics who managed to be the parent to a soul blessed by whatever divine sugar parent I ended up with, my neighbours sure as hell would be suspicious after the kid was three feet talk before school started.
*pounds fists* we need more race inclusion for individuals who are seen as divine within campaigns! Where are my blessed tieflings? Blessed dwarves? Blessed kenku? It makes NO SENSE for gods to go ‘aight pick your human’ when some of them barely deal with humans to begin with
You think the god of dwarves would pick a human being as their champion! NO
Give me the dwarf with hair that turns into mithril as it grows, sleek and silver and technically useable to barter with because it’s pure mithril.
Give me the ‘tiefling’ aasimar who’s horns have become a physical halo to symbolise that something’s a little off. And tieflings are already unusually coloured. Maybe Melora wants a green one! Maybe sehanine wants a midnight blue one! Get artsy with it!
A kenku born with a different bird’s colour scheme - like a galah, rainbow lorikeet, an owl - to show divine intervention, and the kenku is born already knowing words to songs they have never heard before.
An earth genasi who has plants grow in their footsteps! Long and lithe and petals falling from their hair and their feet, constantly bringing life back and never taking it.
A tortle who’s shell pattern isn’t random swirls but the missing piece of an ancient text, thereby solving one of the major debates between two sides f a God’s worship.
BE! MORE! CREATIVE! WITH! YOUR! BLESSED! CHARACTERS!
A Goliath who’s injuries scab over with shale and slate instead of the usual goodies, multicoloured in greys and browns and a bit of blue for flavour.
A Tabaxi who’s number of tails change, from one to three to nine to seven back to one again, whenever you look at them. (I will admit this also has Big Fey Energy but what are fey if not shitposting deities that could have a religion but hate paperwork)
Now you’re probably thinking ‘that shit doesn’t work right man, they’re two separate races and what do we translate.’
Easy. Add the darkvision, replace any stat with the charisma stat of the aasimar, and then when new abilities arrive decide between the aasimar and base race
‘Choose your own adventure’ the shit outta these characters man. This also forces you to expand on relationships you don’t think of. Are you always going to add to a world building list ‘find out kenku religion’? No! But you need to now, because your rogue got blessed.
TLDR because I know y’all: Give divinity to races that aren’t human. Gods arent going to stick to ‘heroes can only be from 5 to 6 ft 5 inches’. Also, can you imagine the sheer chaotic energy of the mouthpiece of Bahamut being a kobold with platinum tiger stripes
And now Ye Olde tagging: @ChrisPerkinsDnD (hire me) @Wizards_DnD (no im serious) @matthewmercer (I just want to say ur great) @DailyDael (this seems up ur alley)
