1\ Going to scream into the void a little on the subject of @tesla "Smart Summon"

Yes, Summon is inept. Yes, the fanboys still love it. But whether it's a good or bad parlor trick is not the point.

The point is that it reveals Autopilot to be 100% vapourware.
2\ In the stereotyped environment of a highway, AP looks pretty good. There are lines for it to stay between, traffic is moving the same speed in the same direction, and turning is a matter of degrees.

It acts like a person 99% of the time.
3\ Yes, occasionally, AP misses a curve and immolates its driver in a cedar grove. Yes, occasionally it snowplows a peloton of bikers. But these “corner cases” are brushed off as freak accidents or blamed on the driver. The illusion of sophisticated tech remains.
4\But Summon lifts the curtain. In a parking lot there are *only* sophisticated decisions. And suddenly the vaunted neural net is vacillating. It climbs curbs. It shies from puddles. It bucks & wavers. It utterly fails to interpret the intention of other vehicles.
5\ And so AP is revealed for what it is: a 4,000 pound Roomba that does well on perfectly square tile floors, but that blithely streaks dog shit across your living room and doesn't even know you have a kitchen.
6\ Small wonder, then, that as Autopilot has grown from about 7% of @tesla miles to about 11%, Tesla's abysmal safety record has not improved:
7\7 Most of the "rad" Summon success stories being ass-to-mouthed around the @tesla fanboy community involve empty parking lots or aisles with no traffic.

But watch this video and tell me that Autopilot is anything more than hackware:
