My working theory is that Zemeckis heard about Marwencol and figured "here is perfect fodder for my feel-good uncanny valley fetish!" and then everything turned to shit from there because an uncanny valley fetish only works in 2D.
(Plus Hogancamp is an actual complicated strange human person, so using him as the scaffolding for your uncanny valley fetish is just going to make everything weird for everyone.)
Also that's not how a goddamn Lava Lamp works.

Maybe this is obvious to everyone else, but it just hit me that while Trump is almost certainly going to be the nominee next year, if he isn't, he's absolutely going to do everything in his power to destroy whoever is—and whoever in the party he believes betrayed him.
Pence could maybe somehow possibly win at the top of the ticket if Trump went quietly, but since Trump won't go quietly, the GOP has to anticipate a total shellacking in 2020 if they take him out—up and down the ballot.

Good evening. Seems as good a time as any to discuss D.C. and gentrification and change and biking, a thing I thought I wouldn’t have to talk about much at this point. But I realize I’ve been saying I’ve been doing this shit for a decade. I have. That feels significant.
My big career breakthrough was this painstakingly reported City Paper story. It led to a job at WABA. More importantly, I heard that it quelled a good deal of intra-administration anti-bike politics; lots of people said this story was a neutralizer. washingtoncitypaper.com/news/article/1…
Cool! That was really cool. It also...didn’t matter? Bc the collective we—the paid nonprofit advocates—went to do extremely *good* work. But I often question if it was move-the-needle work. I think a needle moved, but not the one that saved lives or, really, improved them.

black lives matter. all cops are bastards.
i’m late for court & my bones hurt. probably slap a content warning for rape & police violence on everything that comes after this.
lunch break. this morning, judge moore started by saying barring black lives matter shirts from his courtroom is not about restricting free speech, it’s about the right to a fair trial superseding the right to express oneself.
he says BLM shirts in the gallery for this case (a white cop sexually assaulting a black woman in her home on TWO occasions) might influence the jury. buddy, if the idea that black people’s lives have value is gonna a sway your jury, y’all have picked a very bad jury.
