BREAKING: JW announced today that a fed judge had enjoined a CA law requiring presidential candidates to publicly disclose their tax returns. The injunction had been requested by JW, President @realDonaldTrump, and other challengers to the law (1/3).

1) Emoluments news:
"Dems sent more than 36 subpoenas, demanding a response by July 29, seeking evidence about Trump's financial records" after a fed judge denied Trump motions.

3) Barr can say what he wants about disobeying court orders on Census, but it is meaningful that DOJ lawyers - Trump's own appointees are bailing. Important signal to lawyers and judges.
I doubt DOJ lawyers will follow Barr towards dis-Barr-ment.

Trump has refused to turn over his tax returns but hasn't invoked executive privilege. Treasury Secretary Mnuchin has instead denied the returns by arguing there is no legislative basis for requesting them.

But the IRS memo says disclosure “is mandatory."
The IRS memo says the law “does not allow the [Treasury] Secretary to exercise discretion in disclosing the information provided the statutory conditions are met,” and directly rejects the reason that Mnuchin has cited for withholding Trump's tax returns.

At the presidential level, there have been a lot of norms that have been followed because it was expected by media and the public, and it was assumed that if you violated them you wouldn’t win, or that you would be impeached.
Things like releasing your tax returns. Or not engaging in obstruction of justice. Or not using your status as President to enrich your private businesses. If you did these things, you were done. Or at least, that was the theory.
