For weeks I've read with horror the screenshots and accounts of harassment and bullying of @SheRa_Marley, a thoroughly decent person, by a tiny minority within the #FBPE movement.

I have no view on the proper way to campaign, but as a matter of basic human decency, it appals me.
The price paid by women in the public square is unbearably high to begin with.

I get abused once a month and it bothers me for hours. The DMs and notifications of a woman with a public profile would probably drive me to alcoholism in a day.
Movements about important issues can motivate and enflame passions, but they also exacerbate human tendencies toward purity tests, hierarchy building and out group antipathy.

Decent people in such movements need to be vigilant. Banners can hide many sins.

Response: "Project Fear! The Beatles toured just fine before the UK joined the EU, Adele is going to be fine."

Yes she is. She's Adele. Not everyone is.
3/ Additional border friction of any kind disproportionately hurts smaller players.

They are the ones who lack the in-house resources to navigate it, the capital reserves to weather problems, and the margins to hire professional help.

Hi, Australian trade guy here.

Our country is 14,000km from Europe and overwhelmingly exports iron ore, coal and gold, mostly to Asia.

Unless ya'll have a secret desert full of minerals and a plan to tow yourselves to just under South East Asia, our model won't work for you.
We're also working pretty hard to secure an FTA with the EU, through which we hope to attain a fraction of the full market access ya'll enjoy as EU Members.
Oh, oh, and while I'm here: thanks to a bunch of historical reasons, Australia enjoys significantly more access to the agricultural markets of the EU through country specific quotas under WTO rules than the UK will under No-Deal.

Thread: There’s an insidious argument that it is automatically “un-conservative” to oppose anything that has been baked into the British political landscape for more than a couple of decades. Hence Brexit is supposedly a sign of the Tories being irresponsibly revolutionary. /1
Now, I’m the last one to disagree with the notion that this government has been (and continues to be) cavalier and irresponsible in flirting with a disruptive No Deal Brexit, which was certainly not the Brexit which I and many others campaigned and voted for. /2
But the lazy idea being bandied around by journalists, commentators and others (@sullydish has a slightly more measured take) is that Brexit is inherently un-conservative. Which sounds pleasing until you actually stop and properly think about it. /3

Jeremy Corbyn's idea of breaking the #Brexit impasse with a GE on a platform of renegotiating WA is A/unlikey to happen B/ a REALLY bad strategy to win power C/ catastrofuckingly dangerous for the country for the following reasons
#Brexit GE needs Some tories to support it which is unlikely given thst keeping corbyn out is the one thing that unites they would have a leader who intends to step down which is unlikely
The DUP definitely don't want a GE as they lose their leverage and ability to extract bribes

1/ Chequers was as far as May could go and this was unacceptable to the EU. It was also regarded as rubbish by leavers and remainers alike being simply a worse version of the Status quo
2/ any #Brexit deal Acceptable to the EU which remainers could live with is unlikely to be Acceptable to the Tory europhobes and therefore no deal #Brexit is likely to be the only #Brexit available
