1.The first time I saw a cross dresser was when I was still a teenager, on one occasion when we were sent to a village called Nyaje towards the Cameroon border during the long vac to instruct younger ones on the ways of the church. S/he was known by everyone as Mma Lucy.
2.I do not even know whether to call her a cross dresser because s/he never really interchanged dressing; s/he always dressed as a woman; everyone knew he was a man and everyone knew he preferred being thought of as a woman and dressed as one and everyone humoured her as such.
3. Mma Lucy was illiterate. I mean this was in the early 1980s and by then all these issues of LGBT had not blown up. And this was a village tucked away towards the Cameroon border, so no one could say that Mma Lucy was looking for fame or was an ideologue. S/he was a natural.
4. Mma Lucy did her best to appear like a woman. She padded her breasts, would always use female head gear, even plaited her hair. Only thing was that even as a young boy, I noticed that her ankles were manly and her backside suffered a deficiency. ‘She’ wasn’t quite beautiful
5. Maybe if she was educated and exposed she would have been more artful in projecting her appearance as a woman. One thing that came out so clearly was that, though this man was born a man, all he wanted anyone to know about her was that he was a woman. Her mannerism, her attitude
6. was that of a woman. She would go to the stream to the part women bathed, and would wait for them to be done; everyone knew that Mma Lucy preferred to bath alone and would give her the space, except for kids sometimes. Mma Lucy was a classic case of someone naturally gay.
7. I believe that a few persons are born either male or female but have a different gender orientation as I saw with Mma Lucy during the one month I spent in that village. Are many Mma Lucys being born all around the world ? Is this natural tendency becoming more a phenomenon ?
8. I honest to God do not know. I have heard stories of boarding schools where girls commonly make it out with girls in all girls’ schools and similarly with boys. Most people I guess grow out of this as they leave boarding school and go to uni. My observation is that
9. In environments where same gender sex is abhorred ppl seem to shed off the tendencies more easily; in environments where there is no judgment people are more inclined to identifying themselves as gay even when they are not so naturally. It seems to me that it is more a choice
10. than a natural tendency. With the billions sunk into gay lobby even schools now have curricular that encourage children to think of themselves in a gender that they are not. Lobbyists are forcing an evolution of society in which being male or female too will be a choice
11.The Catholic Church recognizes the fact that some persons are naturally oriented towards the opposite gender and does not condemn them rather encourages them to remain chaste, as Scripture does indeed condemn the sexual act of sodomy. It is a fact that the world is changing
12. It is true that more and more people are identifying themselves as gay. They shld not be condemned. It would be uncharitable tbh to expect that just because many identify themselves as such the church should automatically change its teaching of centuries and endorse the acts
13. Ppl do what they want in their closets no matter what the church teaches but it is not the place of the church to legitimize the closet. The church should welcome everyone with love whether gay or straight but the church should not be intimidated into a value adjustment.
14. That said, the state should guarantee the freedom and happiness of everyone, even those men who want to dress as women but it would be wrong for the state to force faith based entities to abandon their long held traditions. The church’s right to exist shld be guaranteed too.
