#CentralAfricanRepublic (THREAD)

1) 200 to 300 rebels attacked the capital #Bangui today (PK9, PK11, PK12 & Bimbo areas).

Govt, #Russian & #Rwandan troops repelled them. But the rebels remain in the hills & areas surroundings the capital.

Read @CrisisGroup statement 👇
2) The rebels were generally equipped or light weapons (including #AK47 & grenades), several #RPG & probably mortars.

No report of the casualties yet.
3) It's unlikely that they really wanted to size the capital, if not they would have come in bigger number.

They seem to be trying to isolate the capital from the rest of the country that they already control largely & install an attrition warfare just at the capital doors.

Why The West Want Sub-Sahara Africa To Stay Poor.

Fellow Africans, Howard Nicholas is not your enemy, he's actually your friend.
He's bold enough to tell you to stop being #SlavesByChoice

Your NGOs, CSOs, Journalists in collaboration with @cnni etc are used to destabilize YOU!
Your raw materials in #Nigeria, #Congo, #Cameroon, #Ghana, #Rwanda etc is the simple target.

They send funds to those among you running NGOs/CSOs, make those ones #SlavesByChoice so as to keep you all ENSLAVED.
Your underdevelopment is caused by "colonization", OK.
By now you are being recolonized in a new way. This time around, it is #SlavesByChoice. Some Nigerians talking about Ghana & applauding them didn't even know that Ghana has lost of of their villages to the Western Country.

1/ Almost 2 years after launching in Cameroon, @SMECreditPro has made very little progress locally.

The Non-Performing Loan in Cameroon is ~14%, one of the highest (if not the highest) in SSA.

Banks are not lending to MSMEs and less thank 5% of SMEs get access to finance.
2/ the SME credit gap in Cameroon is ~$8 Billion.

Despite these, we have seen reluctance in adopting a solution that can help ease the situation.

Culture seems to play a big role in all of this. There is lack of transparency in the #cameroon banking industry.
3/ it is not clear how credit files are evaluated and/or why a loan file is rejected. "Black Box" still exist. The industry practice collateral based lending which has lucked millions out of the formal banking sector. This has also led to fraud as there is no collateral registry.

Nothing is new under the sun.

Just last week, I was reading in Jacqueline-Bethel Mougoué's book about the Anlu Rebellion, which involved women from the Bamenda Grassfields "stripping naked in front of men" who "considered the sign of the vagina in public to be a bad portent".
I'll have a review of Mougoué's @UofMPress book, "Gender, Separatist Politics, and Embodied Nationalism in #Cameroon" in this week's installment of the @monkeycageblog's African Politics Summer Reading Spectacular. #APSRS20…

Many thanks to @patsuffo for this evening’s chat on Weekend Sports @crtv_web National Station:
Here’s a (long) summary:
On #Cameroon’s 1st round exit from the 2002 World Cup:
“Until today I am still asking myself what could have been in that WC. We had a very, very good squad
...but arguments over bonuses cost them more than a week in transit. Suffo says "the time that we spent in Paris jeopardized our tournament altogether...we were confident in reaching at least the 2nd round in the world cup & not being able to make it was very disappointing for us
Of Marc V. Foe - "Losing not only a teammate, but a leader, a friend, it was very difficult. He was very friendly with everybody in the team, everybody will be okay with whatever he says, it was very very sad.”

On the hard-to-repeat success of the #IndomitableLions in the 2000s:

Let me start this thread with definitions, because context is really important these days when we address topical issues.

Women are vulnerable.

Women are constantly "exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed physically or emotionally" because we are women.
Last year, I was explaining to a male friend the reason why I don't take certain risks and why I simply refuse to put myself in certain positions he will put himself in without a thought.

He wasn't understanding.

In truth, he didn't get it at all
So I told him that just by virtue of being a woman, we are extremely vulnerable and constantly targeted.

He said "really?!!", I said "sure".

He said "how!?", I just decided to share some examples.

Because sometimes, it's important to put these things in perspective.

#Libya In 2018, when I first met James, he had survived a Mediterranean shipwreck, been shot & spent years being abused & tortured. Two years later, I met him again.

📹James' journey back to #Nigeria & the harsh reality of return ImageImageImageImage
James was one of ~81,000 migrants returned home by @UNmigration sponsored by @EU_Commission.

What about people retuned to #Sudan?

Mohi, after 3 years in #Libya, returned to #Darfur. Once back, his package never materialised.

Only 766 out of +2,600 have received economic aid. Image
More about returns from #Libya

Sandrine, Rachel & Berline, from #Cameroon, agreed to go back to #Yaounde in 2018.

When I met them moments before boarding a flight in #Misrata airport, they had no idea where they would sleep when they returned to Cameroon. Image
