New: The Senate Intelligence Committee has released the second in its series of Russia reports, this one on social media: "The new report examines Russia’s efforts to use social media to sow societal discord and influence the outcome of the 2016 election."

Here are the report’s key findings, per the bipartisan committee.

The first: "The Committee found that the IRA sought to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election by harming Hillary Clinton’s chances of success and supporting Donald Trump at the direction of the Kremlin."
.@SenatorBurr: "Russia is waging an information warfare campaign against the U.S. that didn’t start and didn’t end with the 2016 election.”

@MarkWarner: “...there’s no doubt that bad actors will continue to try to weaponize the scale and reach of social media platforms…"

Sen. Mark Warner, vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, tells me that his committee has not yet been able to speak with the whistleblower.

“[We] have our own process with trying to get access to the whistleblower the same way the House is,” Warner said.
Reminder: Here’s what Warner and committee chairman Richard Burr said before the recess about what they would be doing with regards to the whistleblower complaint:
Burr said the committee staff would be “extremely busy” in the weeks ahead, and in typical SSCI fashion, we haven’t heard much about what they’ve been up to. Warner declined to tell me what actions they’ve taken in the last couple weeks.

NEW: We’ve obtained access to scores of banking records on Lev Parnas & Igor Fruman, the two men working with Giuliani to dig up dirt on Biden.

The records reveal more than $200K in spending across the globe as the backchannel campaign was gaining steam.

Parnas alone racked up nearly $20,000 in charges at Trump hotels in NYC and Washington. There was $657 spent at a Kyiv strip club. He spent lavishly despite facing soaring personal debts.

In 2016, Russia took advantage of our openness and innovation, exploiting American-bred social media platforms to spread disinformation, divide the public, and undermine our democracy.
The Internet Research Agency (IRA)'s targeting of the 2016 election was intended to help Trump and hurt Clinton, but it was part of a much broader, sophisticated, and *ongoing* information warfare campaign designed to sow discord in American politics and society.
