1. I don’t know WH Counsel Pat Cipollone, but he just signed his name to a letter that will go down in infamy. But the good news is, that letter makes Trump’s removal from office more certain today than it was yesterday, IMO.
2. The White House is done even pretending to care about our laws, including our sacred Constitution. Cipollone’s letter reads like a combination of a grammatically cleaned-up version of the president’s tweets and a legal brief written by someone unfamiliar with the law.
3. It’s a poorly-presented public relations document, an 8-page campaign flyer that will only fool those willing to be duped by misdirection and doublespeak. It’s a disgraceful un-American letter that will stand as an historic low-point for a White House Counsel.
4. The administration has abandoned the pretense of lawfulness. Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised. In recent days, the courts have all but laughed out loud at DOJ arguments in both the NY tax return case and the DC Mueller grand jury materials case.
5. Indeed, reading accounts of yesterday’s hearing before Chief Judge Beryl Howell in DC Federal Court, it becomes clear that the DOJ no longer cares about making legally supportable - or even straight-faced - arguments in court. A DOJ “lawyer” actually argued, in substance,
6. that the courts got everything wrong in the Nixon/Watergate litigation, suggesting that Nixon’s crimes should have remained hidden from public view, that the courts did poor-old Richard Nixon wrong. Really? Judge Howell’s response, “Wow”! Cue spit-take.
7. Cipollone announces in his pouting, tantrum letter that the president is simply going to take his presidential ball and go home. He will NOT honor lawfully issued Congressional subpoenas for documents that will show his crimes and abuses.
8. He will NOT let testify witnesses who can provide incrimination information against him. In short, he doesn’t care one whit that impeachment is expressly authorized by the constitution, he will NOT let the the constitution stand in the way of his continued service as president
9. And the fact that Trump has announced that he will NOT let the Constitution stand in the way of him remaining president of the United States of America is PRECISELY why his removal from office is more certain today than it was yesterday. Now more than ever #JusticeIsComing
