Wow.

At same time Trump has been saying his efforts on Ukraine were to combat corruption...

The plot to oust US Ambassador Yovanovitch was led by the highly corrupt prosecutor Lutsenko—because she was stymying his corruption. And the President of the United States obliged him.
"[Lutsenko's] incentive to help was to take out the ambassador," said a former senior diplomat with experience in the region. "He was angry at criticism from the U.S. embassy over the slow pace of reform in the justice sector."

"There was this personal payback dimension."
One quibble/query. Story states:

“In his July call with Ukrainian President Zelenskiy, Trump praised Lutsenko and lamented that he was on his way out.”

Call transcript is ambiguous as to whether Trump is talking about Shokin/Lutsenko.
