I have a horrible feeling. I hope I'm wrong with every quark of my being, but Boris Johnson's so slippery and Labour so unreliable, I fear that by close of play Saturday night we will have signed off on a Brexit deal. We will then spend the next decade wondering WHY!
I get the impression there are possibly just enough MPs willing to sign anything sight unseen to combine with the rest and get some cobbled together nonsense over the line. Suits Labour MPs in Leave seats by getting rid of Remain possibility.
And even if a confirmatory referendum is attached, it could be...
- stripped out later
- run without Remain option
- run in a format that favours Leave (I identified 7 different ways to organise a 2nd ref in my book, some quite biased)
I have not lost faith. Saturday the march will be off the scale. But I am down to the reserve tank on hope.

Once upon a time there was a middling sized country that beat most other countries to big ships and big guns. On the back of that, it carved itself out an Empire than spanned a third of the globe.
"We're great", said the country. "We must be. Just look at all the pink bits on the map!"

Of course, the people in the pink bits weren't happy because their rights and way of life had been trampled at the point of a gun, but hey ho they weren't British so it didn't matter.
Then the world evolved a bit and the Empire crumbled. Good golly, two world wars. Britain stands alone. (Except it didn't.) We got through that with courage and blitz spirit. (Except millions didn't, the economy was gutted and rationing came in).

Boris Johnson's Brexit deal is a conveyor belt to no deal. Here's why:
- It passes
- We leave on or shortly after 31 October (inc. extra time for legal stuff)
- All our EU treaties and trade agreements end instantly
- In transition period until Dec 2020 or Dec 2021 with extension
- During transition, we don't feel the *effects* of having left because transitional legal framework insulates us, but we're already out out.
- The microsecond transition ends, we're back in no deal territory. (Minus whatever has been cobbled together during transition).
However, unlike the current situation, we no longer have an escape hatch to avoid no deal. Now, we can always revoke A50 and stay in. But after Brexit that option is gone. So it will be "reach a deal any deal no matter how desperate/poor" or "no deal". There is no third choice.

There are *two* sides to an argument. There is *one* side to a fact.

But the BBC treats both the same, and brings on two guests to debate each other even when objective reality means there's no counter position possible (not without lying).

That's "BBC balance", aka bias.
Example of this on the morning news show. Andrew Bridgen & Dominic Grieve were discussing the effects of Boris Johnson's deal on Northern Ireland. Only one correct position (that of DG) ie that it would cut off NI economically from the rest of the UK because of different regimes.
In other words, NI *will* be treated differently. It's in the terms of the deal, in black and white.

But AB is still allowed to say "no, that's not the case" and then spout some nonsense. He is wrong. DG is right. The deal text says so.

We're getting an election but not because the Tories want it.
The facts are Boris Johnson has inherited a coalition majority of 3.

And that's not enough to pass a budget or a Queen' speech.
If Theresa May hadn't resigned, she too would have had an election this autumn because she couldn't have got a budget or a Queen's speech through parliament either.

No one could. That's why there's going to be an election
The media is always getting stuff wrong. This general election is not being chosen by Johnson out of some sort of strategy.

It's being forced on him. The strategy is therefore a matter of necessity, not initiative.

1. #Labour now seem to be unified in calling for a customs union. This to me looks like the sleepy kid at the back of the class suggesting something to make it look like he was paying attention. It is a non-solution to #Brexit. Thread...
2. Because it has the word "customs" in the name, they believe it has magical properties that bring about frictionless trade. As the Commission pointed out a year ago, this simply is not the case.
3. Frictionless trade is the byproduct of a system of behind the border controls which is largely to do with regulatory harmonisation - ie the single market. Without it, there will need to be controls at or near the border.

2. A flawed Leave campaign based on lies, deceit, disingenuity & over simplification & a #Remain one fought w/o any positivity from the Govt & no real commitment from Labour, whose leader was virtually AWOL, did no justice to #Brexit complexity & betrayed our democratic process.
3. A mere 37% of voters/26.5% of the Ppl voted leave in a legally Non-Binding test of public opinion which has been corrupted, on the basis of an illegitimate political promise & interpreted as being the irrefutable Will of the Ppl.
The 1st is insufficient to claim the latter!
