Female "circumcision" in Malaysia increasingly carried out by doctors, with belief they have better expertise and it will be safer. Again, unless non-consensual genital cutting of children is regarded as *wronging* the child regardless of harm-level, medicalization will continue.

I picked up a biography of Ben Franklin the other day. Mostly stayed off social media except to post some articles through a third-party queuing app (a kind of set & forget approach). And so I spent the time I would have been on Twitter just reading for pleasure. I learned that
1 hr of reading (pretty much anything I suspect but a good biography definitely works) is (a) way more edifying, (b) less stressful, (c) more enjoyable, (d) more fulfilling (emotionally & intellectually), &(d) so much better in basically every conceivable way, than Twittering.
My thinking has been that “keeping up with the latest developments in my fields” and so on made being on Twitter worth it despite drawbacks. But the mental health upsides of just, like, reading a book & NOT following latest dramas now seem much weightier. Thoughts?

I just want to follow up on this shocking conflict of interest case at @WHO, where the inventor of a newborn circumcision device, after applying for a patent, is invited to co-write the @WHO "manual" for performing newborn circumcision, touting his own device for mass use.
Again, the whole @WHO push for mass circumcision in Africa was based on studies of sexually active adults, circumcised (nominally) with their consent. There is no controlled evidence that newborn circumcision lowers risk of HIV in Africa or anywhere else; & newborns can't consent
Suggesting newborn circumcision has no negative effects on sexual outcomes, the device inventor & his @WHO co-authors exclusively cite studies of *adult* circ w/ limited follow-up, including one by Krieger, who ALSO has a patent out for a circ device: threadreaderapp.com/thread/1079164…

-I’ll try to explain by using *frequentist* point of view

Briefly, multiplicity is using many (multiple) comparisons. It increases the likelihood that a chance association could be deemed causal. In other words, we carry out multiple tests, it becomes highly likely that one of these tests will be significant by chance.
2/
What is the source of multiplicity?
1-Multiple endpoints (i.e. death and death+HF rehosp)
2-Multiple treatments/arms (i.e. PCI vs Med-Tx vs CABG in pts with CAD or Riv15 mg vs Riv20 mg vs ASA)
3-Multiple interim analyses
4-Multiple subgroups
