this is my first visit to pittsboro, nc and there is a real difference in the attitude of the confederates here. they are very comfortable & much bolder than they are in the durham area.
the league of the south made a lot of noise about bringing in members from all over... but i don’t see a single one of ‘em. did they oversleep or was it a bluff?

it looks like the racists won’t be marching down to the statue they’re so concerned about, likely because they’re currently rallying on private land, which means they can all have their guns. they’d have to leave them behind to head to the statue.

they’ve been inviting us over all damn day but the second we crossed the street they started crying “private property!!!” and called the police. cowards, as always.
eagerly awaiting yet another confederate surrender
cops have set up a random checkpoint on the sidewalk between the statue downtown and the rally point a few blocks away. they are attempting to conduct unwarranted searches of antiracists passing by.
the cops’ radios just said they aren’t allowed to let anyone walk toward the rally point, they’re only allowing people to walk back toward the town center. they are physically preventing people from walking down a public street.
the chatham county sheriffs office could use a refresher course on the constitution. i think they only got at far as the 2nd amendment and aren’t yet aware of the 4th.
legal observers are attempting to determine what the police believe to be probable cause to physically search people walking down the sidewalk. the deputy just shrugged and told him to call his boss.
the cop’s radio is saying that if a vehicle drops anyone off near the sidewalk where we’ve been protesting all day, they’ll do a traffic stop and search the vehicle.
the deputies all insist they’re just following orders. we’ve got few legal observers and at least one lawyer on site. i think the sheriff himself is gonna come down and explain his unconstitutional order.
a lawyer is very patiently and gently explaining to the deputies why what they are doing is not a good idea. they are unmoved.
legal counsel for the sheriffs department has arrived and is chatting with the lawyer we had with us. the cop lawyer seems to believe it’s fine actually for cops to establish a checkpoint and perform unwarranted searches on every passing pedestrian.
the lawyers reached an agreement that people with bags could get into a car and be driven one block past the checkpoint and dropped off. we’ll see if they keep to their word or if they try to stop the car and search it illegally. 🤷♀️
the cops just rolled up and are now aggressively confronting the people with bags who got out of the car
the people who live across the street from the confederate flag have graciously allowed us to stand on their lawn, so the police can’t do anything now they we’re on private property but they say they’ll search anyone who steps off it.
so unless we wanted to be subjected to an illegal search, we’ll have to be picked up in a car and driven out of town?

i think the cops thought they could make us all go home by threatening to violate our constitutional rights. the thing is, i was about to leave. i’m tired and hungry. but now i’m mad and not leaving.
as always, the cops are the problem.
we laughed at the undercover cop and now he’s hiding behind a bush. we’re ordering pizza and he can’t have any.

the dude with obvious roid rage just pegged an antiracist in the head with a coffee cup. first time all day i can’t see any cops anywhere. weird.
roid rage guy’s name is apparently allan hall. he came over earlier and offered someone this piece of paper with his full name, phone number, and address. said to come over anytime. he’s extremely ready to fight anyone, at all times.
y’all are lucky it’s dark out now and i can’t take any video of a dozen drunk confederates dancing to shitty country music and getting handsy with each other.
they turned off their music... maybe they’re leaving. i’ve been on this sidewalk for nine hours.
they’re just sitting there. in silence. in the dark. in their lawn chairs. with their confederate flags. it’s incredibly weird.
i think they’re just gonna drink cheap beer and sit in lawn chairs all night. we’re out of here.
