Personally I'm quite keen on an election now. The extension letter is sent. The govt is treating any meaningful parliamentary involvement in the deal like it's intolerable.
There's a clear proposition from both main parties, offering a chance to move on if there's a clear majority.
Might Johnson do well? Yes. Clear poll lead. He's got a deal. He can say he'll get Brexit done and still be able to use his parliament vs the people populist framing.
But he might not. The election is before Brexit, during an extension he said would never happen, he'd still face Farage, the Remain alliance would have a good chance to hold firm, and all elections right now are incredibly chaotic and unpredictable.
I totally get the arguments the other way. But my instinct right now would be to roll the dice.
As for second referendum: I can't see the majority in the Commons for it. I mean, give it a go, but I have little expectation of it succeeding.
