Also? We strongly select for engineers who are interested in the business side, who respect sales and marketing as equal peers.
It's not a good sign if they disrespect business functions, obviously; it's just as much of a yellow flag if they exoticise them. ("I could NEVER do any marketing work, they are practically a different SPECIES")
It's sad, but tech is ridden with so much eng snobbery and anti-biz bias that simply treating other functions with curiosity and respect is a pretty good heuristic for hiring people who are pragmatic, empathetic, and mature.
